Embracing Culture in Downtown Milwaukee

From the photographer, Colleen Bies:

It’s couples like Tolu and Deonte that make me feel alive and grateful that fate is working overtime. I meet this couple when they were touring a reception hall. I just so happened to be photographing a wedding that day and showed up about 20 minutes earlier than I anticipated. Any later, and I would have completely missed my chance encounter with Tolu and Deonte.
It really did feel like it was meant to be. After phone calls and bookings and the engagement session; it just seemed to get better and better. And my biggest disappointment of all, is that Tolu lives in Washington DC. Because that means that we can’t just hang out as friends as often as I’d like. But there is always social media and the memories and photos of their beautiful Milwaukee wedding day.
One of the special things at their wedding was how important it was to include so many fundamentals of who they were and their traditions and culture. Loads of the most colorful Nigerian outfits and when I thought it was all set, there was more! Even the entire wedding party donned their own wardrobe at the second half of the reception and it was the most amazing thing to not only witness, but to photographically document.
I would love to re-live their wedding day a second and third and fourth time. I wish so much for these two and know that they have the brightest future ahead of them.
