Bachelor fans were stunned this morning to learn that Arie Luyendyk Jr., the runner-up on Emily Maynard's season in 2012, will be the next Bachelor. Arie, 35, has been diligent to keep Bachelor negotiations under wraps, not even telling his family. The son of Indianapolis 500 winner, Arie himself is a race car driver. Emily Maynard, who went on to choose Jef Holm in the 2012 Bachelorette finale, wishes Arie nothing but well wishes and the best of luck on his upcoming journey. Oddly enough, Emily's late fiancé was also a professional race car driver.
The Netherlands native was rumored to be a front-runner back in 2015, but ultimately the role of the Bachelor was given to Chris Soules. Rumors were flying that Peter Kraus, of Madison, Wisconsin, would be the next Bachelor. However, his indecisiveness on Rachel's season and current contemplation of whether or not he would want to be the next Bachelor was unattractive to producers and fans. Although Arie travels approximately 250 days out of the year, and is looking for a companion that is both comfortable with him traveling and can match his level of enthusiasm for travel, he is ready to settle down. Not to mention the pressure is on, seeing as his 24-year old brother was recently married. January will be here before you know it, and this season will definitely be books!
