Locally Grown

From Renee at Madison Wedding Flowers:

We really love the local farms and produce in Madison, WI. A few summers back I had the opportunity to work on an organic farm outside of Madison for a short season. I knew that farmers were hard workers, yet this experience really gave me a new perspective of the work and details involved in growing and producing crops. I admire and respect all their hard work! With this came the opportunity to then sell the produce at the Dane County Farmers Market. I cannot tell you how much I love the DCFM! It is the place to be Saturday Mornings!

The main focus of this styled shoot was to see the farmers represented. We chose to feature four local Madison, WI Farms and have the center of the shoot to take place around the Dane County Farmers Market.

The second location for the shoot was easy to choose. My In-Laws have a small farm tucked in between the hills of Clyde County outside of Spring Green, WI. It is a location that few know about or have had the chance to visit. This is where my husband and I hosted our engagement party and later on reception in 2012. I describe this location as a magical place with charming features. Outside are orchards and gardens, brown jersey cows (will bells of course) chickens, hand constructed stone fences, a croquet field and with plenty of vintage and rustic charm in and around the home.

I was originally inspired to arrange with produce on a Sunday drive out to Spring Green, WI last summer. After talking with some family members at a local book store/coffee shop and picking up Edible Madison Magazine, we were inspired with the idea to arrange with edible, local produce instead of flowers. I knew this might be a challenge but something I was determined to try and see come to life! In the past we have arranged with fruit and even artichokes, but to feature bouquets of all organic produce would be a first for us!

We kept this idea quiet for a while until earlier this spring. We started talking about the idea of seeing this dream come to life with the help of some local Madison Wedding Vendors. After much planning and a floral cooler full of produce, we were ready to bring this vision come to life. We couldn’t have had a more perfect day!
